Brain Monoamine Neurotransmitters

Brain monoamine neurotransmitters and their role in physiology and behavior in animals, and especially how these brain chemicals relate to human mental illness is a focus of this research. The primary techniques used in exploring these issues are recording of single unit activity and microdialysis in behaving animals. Stress, motor activity, and how serotonergic neurotransmission is related to dopaminergic neurotransmission as well as studying whether neurotransmitter release can be dissociated from neuronal activity under "physiological" conditions, and if so, under what conditions this occurs is an interest in this research.
